On 21 June 2021, HQ Supreme Allied Command Transformation’s Deputy Chief Of Staff of Capability Development, Lieutenant-General (LTG) Thomas Sharpy, honoured the JALLC with an official visit. LTG Sharpy wanted to find out more about the JALLC, its activities and the way it works in order to continue to promote the JALLC’s activities Allied Command Transformation- and NATO-wide, maintain and further develop the good working relationship with the JALLC, and to understand the potential for opportunities for further collaboration.

LTG Sharpy 4.jpgLTG Sharpy was first received by the JALLC’s Commander, Brigadier General Bogdan Cernat, which was followed by a tailored briefing, delivered by key members of the JALLC’s staff, on the JALLC’s role within NATO, its on-going activities, output, and near future projects. The briefing included presentations on the JALLC’s key activities which all directly or indirectly support NATO’s Capability Development, including recent Joint Analysis projects (which you can read about in our factsheets here), and it’s work with regard to Lessons Learned, the NATO Lessons Learned Portal, and Outreach.

LTG Sharpy 1.jpgAnother topic discussed during the visit is one of great importance to HQ SACT, the JALLC, and to the whole of NATO: innovation. In particular, LTG Sharpy heard about the development of the New NATO Lessons Learned Toolset, scheduled to substitute the NATO Lessons Learned Portal in 2025. This new and innovative Lessons Learned Toolset for NATO will support Lessons Learned information collection, analysis, staffing, tracking, and sharing. It is being designed as a suite of applications, able to access distributed libraries, connect with external resources, and will feature advanced technologies to improve the implementation of the NATO Lessons Learned Process and increase information availability, accuracy, and accessibility tailored to specific user groups.

LTG Sharpy 2.jpgLTG Sharpy concluded the successful visit to the JALLC and we look forward to the continuation of our good relationship in the future. You can find out more about ACT and Capability Development in NATO on the ACT website here.
