General Ruggiero’s intent for the visit was to understand the JALLC’s mission and the way it works in order to better promote the JALLC’s important activities for the Alliance.
In addition, key members of the JALLC’s staff briefed the General on the responsiveness and reliability of NATO Lessons Learned Capability and how flexibility and innovation in this field are improving the Alliances ability to meet Lessons Learned requirements at the speed of relevance.
The General also learned about the growing need for effective engagement and lessons sharing between NATO and the Nations which will bolster NATO’s ability to identify and learn lessons at the strategic level.

The importance of the JALLC’s analysis output, including analysing the content of the NATO Lessons Learned Portal, Short Term Analysis, and Joint Analysis, was discussed and agreed as being essential to informing strategic change not only in HQ Supreme Allied Command Transformation but also in SHAPE, Allied Command Operations, and in NATO HQ.
The benefits of the strong working relationship between the JALLC, the Joint Warfare Centre, and the Joint Force Training Centre (the JALLC’s sister HQs in Allied Command Transformation (ACT)) in delivering exercise support and informing Warfare Development were also discussed.

General Ruggiero showed great interest in the JALLC’s activities, its performance, and effectiveness and shared ideas about how to broaden its visibility across the Alliance and develop the relationship and interaction between the JALLC within ACT and with other NATO entities.
