The JALLC’s products are recognized NATO-wide, not only for the high-quality content, but also for their readability and usability. In order to ensure that the JALLC’s products continue to meet NATO’s high standards, the JALLC provides its staff with opportunities to attend lectures, courses, and workshops that ensure they develop as professionals and can continue to excel at what they do as the right people with the right skills.

In this context, on 15 June 2023, the JALLC organized a special lecture by Ms Delyth Hemingway, a government communications professional and a speechwriter at NATO HQ working directly with the Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General. The lecture and workshop were set in the context of the JALLC’s Innovation Plan for 2023 and focused on impactful communications. Ms Hemingway provided the JALLC’s staff with insights, techniques, and approaches used at the NATO HQ level, sharing some real-world examples of her work as a speechwriter.

Praising in particular the JALLC’s factsheets, which are two-page summaries of our joint analysis reports, Ms Hemingway explained the importance of: “Keeping it Simple” when it comes to delivering any message; especially complexP1140827.JPG messages such as those conveyed in JALLC analysis products. During both the lecture and workshop, JALLC staff also spent time looking at how critical it is to tailor our writing to the specific audience, as well as the benefits of developing a good (executive) summary that not only provides enough information to convey the message, but can also pique the curiosity of the reader to go ahead and read the full product.
