In an increasingly digital world and data rich environment, information and knowledge management is critical to the success of any organization, including NATO.  NATO’s Information Knowledge Management (or IKM) processes and procedures help manage the life cycle of information; from creating the file to archiving it at the end of its useful life. NATO has a suite of Information Knowledge Management tools at its staff’s disposal and specialist staff across the whole organization, including at the JALLC, who work dynamically to ensure that all NATO generated Information and Knowledge is managed properly through an efficient workflow and effective processes.

From 27 to 29 June 2023, the JALLC hosted the first Information Knowledge Management workflow and process workshop. This workshop brought together experts from the IKM Community from both of NATO’s Strategic Commands and was led by the JALLC’s IKM Manager. The intent of the workshop was to provide training on business process management and process mapping and was attended by staff from HQ Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT) and from Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), along with colleagues from NATO’s Allied Air Command (AIRCOM).

Ensuring that NATO’s IKM processes and procedures are efficient and effective is critical to the success of the Alliance. Workshops like these ensure that that communities of experts can get together to share experience and expertise, learn from each other, and ultimately work towards the continuous transformation of NATO.
