On 24 February 2022, Russia illegally invaded Ukraine. The JALLC has been contributing to NATO's efforts to support the Ukrainian armed forces, through the JALLC's various activities and products. This included analysis reports, support to development of a national Lessons Learned capability, and Lessons Learned training. In 2024, it was decided to dedicate JALLC resources to NATO's support to Ukraine by setting up the JALLC-UKR Initiative, intended to be the single point of reference for NATO’s Lessons Learned Information relating to Russia’s war against Ukraine. It is staffed by a dedicated team of JALLC analysts, forming the JALLC Ukraine-Russia Lessons Analysis Team, or JURLAT for short.
The JALLC-UKR Initiative's activities include:
- developing analysis products that help NATO understand the lessons it can learn from Russia’s war against Ukraine,
- hosting the JALLC-UKR Initiative Information Centre on the NATO Lessons Learned Portal. This information centre allows users to collect and collate relevant Lessons Learned related information on Russia's war against Ukraine, ranging from NATO-produced documents to publicly available reports that provide a wealth of information for users. You can now access a limited unclassified version of the JALLC-UKR Initiative Information Centre via the unclassified version of the NATO Lessons Learned Portal using your regular accout. To acces the full version of the JALLC-UKR Initiative Information Cetnre, you need to register for the JALLC-UKR Initiative Community of Interest on the classified version of the NATO Lessons Learned Portal.
- a quarterly newsletter, updating the community on the latest Lessons Learned news regarding NATO's efforts to learn from Russia's war against Ukraine, including useful links and insights on related key issues.
