From 10-12 March 2026, the JALLC hosted the Mini-JALLC Analyst Training Course (JATC), which brought together 22 analysts, from JALLC, SHAPE, the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis Training and Education Centre (JATEC).
The course began with participants exploring Russ Ackoff's systems thinking basics through the lens of some thought-provoking videos.

The first two days were led by Dr. Peter Whitehead, a Systems Analysis expert and experienced practitioner. Dr. Whitehead guided participants to rethink how they approach problem-solving, encouraging them to think beyond the system, define clear goals, and develop systemic solutions rather than merely systematic ones. His engaging delivery and broad expertise offered participants valuable insights to enhance their analytical toolbox.
The third day was dedicated to exploring recent innovations at the JALLC. Senior JALLC experts introduced JALLC’s new project management methodology based on PRINCE2 Agile practices, as well as the exciting developments in JALLC’s experimental AI Research and Analysis Tool. Participants also delved into JALLC's analytical writing techniques designed to effectively communicate complex findings with clarity and impact.
The event was successful in fostering improved analytical capabilities, stimulating innovation, and enhancing professional networking across NATO’s operational research and analysis community. Attendees left the seminar with renewed inspiration and tools to tackle challenges with a systems-thinking approach.
The next JALLC Analyst Training Course event is scheduled for Q3 of 2026, continuing the JALLC’s commitment to advancing NATO’s analytical capacity and collaboration within the Alliance.
