On Monday, 8 November 2010, MGen Badet the Military Representative Swiss
Mission to NATO, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre
in Lisbon, Portugal.
The purpose of the visit was to become familiar with the activities, organisation
and challenges of the JALLC and MGen Badet expressed a particular interest
in the topic of PSE and therefore he requested an interview with the JALLC
PSE member from Austria, LTC Paul Handle.
After a welcome by the Chief of Staff, Colonel Joao Barbas, MGen Badet was briefed on the role and capabilities of the JALLC and during the discussion it was explained how a partner country like CHE could benefit from the Lessons Learned from the JALLC. The briefing was followed by an interview with the JALLC PSE member LTC Paul Handle.
MGen Badet expressed his appreciation for the visit and he concluded
his visit by signing the JALLC Book of Honour.
Their Excellencies were welcomed by the Portuguese Air Force Air Commander,
Lieutenant General Tareco and the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter
Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, the Ambassadors were
briefed on where the JALLC fits within Allied Command Transformation,
then on the role, capabilities and activities of the JALLC. Of special
interest to the Ambassadors was how the JALLC undertakes its analysis
studies and produces its reports.
Afterwards, Ambassador eljko Vukosav and Ambassador Edmond Trako
signed the JALLC Book of Honour, expressing their appreciation for what
they considered a very fruitful visit.
On Wednesday 20 October, Allied Command Transformation Deputy Chief of
Staff for Capability Development, Vice Admiral Carol M. Pottenger, visited
the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) and Joint Force Command
Lisbon, Portugal.
Vice Admiral Pottenger began at the JALLC with a warm welcome by the JALLC
Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After introductions, she was
updated on JALLC’s current activities and objectives. She delivered
an insightful brief to JALLC’s staff regarding the future of ACT and
fielded several astute questions from the audience. She expressed her appreciation
for the productivity and determination of the JALLC’s staff in providing
beneficial analyses and maintaining an excellent reputation within NATO.
She concluded her visit by signing the JALLC Book of Honour.
After visiting JALLC, Vice Admiral Pottenger travelled to Joint Force
Command Lisbon and met with the Commander, Lieutenant General Philippe
Stolz and the Deputy Commander, Lieutenant General Manuel Mestre Barea.
She discussed Operation “OCEAN SHEILD”, NATO’s anti-piracy
effort, and future prospects for the NATO Force Structure.
On Tuesday, 19 October 2010, LGen Kurt Herrmann, the Director NATO CIS Services
Agency (NCSA), visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon,
Portugal.
The purpose of the visit was to become familiar with the activities, organisation,
CIS capabilities and challenges of the JALLC and to participate in the Activation
Ceremony of the NCSA detachment (NSE Monsanto).
After a welcome by the Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby, there
was a special JALLC All, during which the NCSA Detachment (NSE Monsanto)
was officially activated after speeches of both COM JALLC and the Director
NCSA. This ceremony was concluded with a “Port d’ Honour”
on the future cooperation between the JALLC and NSE Monsanto.
Following the ceremony LGen Herrmann was briefed on the role and capabilities
of the JALLC and areas of common interest between the JALLC and NCSA. LGen
Herrmann expressed particular interest in the development of the NATO Lessons
Learned Portal.
LGen Herrmann expressed his appreciation for the visit and for the support
to the NSE Monsanto. He concluded his visit by signing the JALLC Book of
Honour.
