The Senior Delegate to NATO and European Armed Forces of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre.

The Senior Delegate to NATO and European Armed Forces of the International 
        Committee of the Red Cross visitOn Monday, 21 November, the Senior Delegate to NATO and European Armed Forces of the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC), Mr Aleardo Ferretti visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Lisbon, Portugal.
As the new ICRC’s Senior Delegate to NATO, Mr. Ferretti, wished to learn more about NATO’s Lessons Learned Process and options to support pre-deployment training. He was welcomed by members of the JALLC Command Group and was briefed on the JALLC’s role, capabilities and current activities.
The main discussion points were the offer of ICRC SME’s to engage into NATO training and exercises and to explore options to exchange lessons to enhance doctrine and policy. JALLC introduced the main stakeholders in training and exercises, the Joint Warfare Centre and Joint Force Training Centre where further exploration of options should be addressed.
During the visit specific JALLC projects were presented which seemed to be of interest to interact with the ICRC. It was agreed that JALLC and ICRC want to explore venues for exchanging lessons and to continue the interesting and fruitful sharing of experiences.

The Commander of the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre.

The Commander of the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) visitColonel Mark D. Baines Commander of the NATO School Oberammergau, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on 17 November 2011.
After a courtesy call with Brigadier General Peter Sonneby, Commander JALLC; Col Baines was briefed on where the JALLC fits within Allied Command Transformation and on its role, capabilities and activities. Col Baines showed a special interest in JALLC projects (finished and ongoing) that could be included in the NSO curriculum. The idea is to send a member of the project team to certain courses to brief the students on the findings of these projects. This with the aim to improve the quality of the course and the opportunity for the JALLC to promote their work.
COM JALLC expressed the wish to include briefings on Lessons Learned (capability) in certain courses by the NSO staff. JALLC/ JATT will engage with NSO staff to develop an action plan.
Upon completion of the briefing and discussions, Col Baines signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for the visit.

SHAPE Organisational Development (ODA) Team visit to the JALLC on 14 and 15 November 2011.

The SHAPE Organisational Development (ODA) Team visitThe SHAPE ODA Team, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday, 14 and Tuesday 15 November.

On 14 November the team consisting of the current Chief ODA COL Drechsler, the incoming Chief COL Kohring and Mr Mark Pepper where welcomed by and had a office call with the Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. The next day COL Kohring and Mr Pepper where briefed on the role and capabilities of the JALLC and information on recent reports, ongoing projects and the JALLC Program of Work. This was followed by an ODA brief and a good discussion. The ODA team made it clear that their intent is to find how they can influence activities in SHAPE so that more recommendations from JALLC reports can be implemented.

DSACEUR, General Sir Richard Shirreff visit to the JALLC on 24 October 2011.

The DSACEUR, General Sir Richard Shirreff visitGeneral Sir Richard Shirreff, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday, 24 October.

After an initial office call, General Shirreff was provided a short tailored briefing on JALLC’s activities, internal structure and processes. This was followed by focussed briefings on projects and activities of particular interest to SHAPE. The Programme of Work was discussed which allowed us to emphasize the need for well defined analysis requirements as well as the need for engaged and dedicated “customers” at the right level.The development of Analysis Requirements in support of SHAPE, related to the new Command Structure, was also discussed. Finally, General Sonneby took the opportunity to mention some of the challenges the JALLC is facing related to the cooperation with the European Union and also mentioned that there might be areas where General Shirreff, in his double-hatted function as DSACEUR as well as the EU Operational Commander, would find JALLC support beneficial.

It was a very productive visit that allowed us to highlight how we support SHAPE/ACO as well as what challenges we see for the future and where we can benefit from DSACEUR support. Before leaving, General Shirreff expressed very strong support to the JALLC.

The Ambassador of Georgia to Portugal visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre.

The Ambassador of Georgia to Portugal visitOn 6 October 2011, the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Monsanto, Portugal was visited by the Ambassador of Georgia, his Excellency Mr. Giorgi Gorgiladze and his councellor Mr. Gaioz Japaridze and the US Army Attaché LTC Brant Stephenson.

The Ambassador received a warm welcome by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with the Commander and JALLC’s Chief of Staff, the Ambassador was briefed on where the JALLC fits within NATO’s military structure, and on the role, capabilities and current activities of the Centre. Of particular interest to the Ambassador was the support JALLC offers to both NATO Nations and to Partner for Peace Nations by the JALLC Advisory and Training Team ( JATT) in advice on how to enhance the lessons learned capability. The Ambassador looked forward to further cooperation with the JALLC and specifically a possible visit from the JATT to the Georgian Armed Forces. The Ambassador concluded his visit by signing the JALLC Book of Honour.

Rear Admiral Di Cecco Visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre.

Rear Admiral Di Cecco VisitOn Monday, 19 September, the Chief of Staff, NCSA, Rear Admiral Di Cecco, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Lisbon, Portugal..

Rear Admiral Di Cecco, attended the NCLB ( NCSA Sector Lisbon) change of command and after the ceremony, COS NCSA came to JALLC to pay a visit to NSE Monsanto and have an office call with Com JALLC, Gen Peter Sonneby.
During the office call matters of actual concern were discussed, such as the NCSA reorganization and the possible consequences, together with the reorganization of the NATO geographical footprint and how it will affect the Iberian Peninsula.
RA Di Cecco ensured COM JALLC that the CIS support provided by NSE Monsanto will never standstill during all transition phases, and that NCSA and the future C&I agency under which the various CIS agencies will be collected, will fulfil its obligation at any time. After the office call RA Di Cecco signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for a fruitful visit.

The ACOS PPM Major General Jon Lilland visits the JALLC.

ACOS PPM Major General Jon Lilland visitOn Tuesday 6 September 2011, the ACOS Programme & Planning Management ( PPM) from ACT, MGen Jon Lilland visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

MGen Lilland was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, MGen Lilland was briefed on the role, responsibilities and activities of the JALLC. This was followed by more detailed briefings on a number of subjects areas including: the Programme of Work process; Lessons Learned Portal; JALLC Project Approach; Lessons Learned Training; and the JALLC Advisory and Training Team. On completion of the briefings, MGen Lilland signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for the efforts into making his visit so informative and stated that he was looking forward to working closely with the JALLC during his tenure as ACOS PPM.

MGen Lilland’s visit also coincided with the celebration of the JALLC's 9th birthday and he joined the staff of the JALLC in a short ceremony to commemorate this event.

The President of the Technical Services Group for ManTech International Corporation Mr. Louis Addeo visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre

Mr. Louis Addeo visitMr. Louis Addeo visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Lisbon, Portugal on the 6th & 7th of September. Mr. Addeo is the President of the Technical Services Group for ManTech International Corporation, with headquarters in Chantilly, Virginia, USA. His company is presently under contract to Allied Command Transformation to provide analysis support to the JALLC.

The visit began with a welcome by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After introductions, Mr. Addeo was presented with a briefing on JALLC's activities, internal structure and processes. This was followed by office calls with the Chief of Staff and Branch Heads, and then a more detailed set of briefings on analysis methodologies and the JALLC Project Approach. During his visit, Mr. Addeo expressed ManTech’s continued commitments to NATO and to providing quality analysis support to JALLC. A highlight of Mr. Addeo’s visit was the signing of the JALLC Book of Honour.

General Lange Visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre.

General Lange VisitsOn Friday, 2 September, the SHAPE Chief of Staff, General Manfred Lange, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Lisbon, Portugal.

After an office call with the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby, General Lange, was briefed on JALLC's activities, internal structure and processes. This was followed by briefings on projects of particular interest to SHAPE: Allied Command Operations Assessment Capability and Crisis Urgent Requirements Process. Also of interest to General Lange was the JALLC's recent work with the SHAPE Strategic Analysis Team in connection with Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR. At the conclusion of the briefings and discussion, General Lange expressed his appreciation for the visit and JALLC's analysis and outreach efforts.

Major General Nikolaos Tamouridis Visits the JALLC.

Major General Nikolaos Tamouridis visitOn Friday, 26 August, the Chief of Staff, NATO Deployable Corps - Greece ( NDC-GR) Headquarters, Major General Nikolaos Tamouridis, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Lisbon, Portugal.

The visit began with a welcome by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After introductions, the guests were presented with a brief on JALLC's activities, internal structure and processes. This was followed by a briefing by Colonel Frederic Curtaz, Chief of Exercises, Training and Experimentation, on Lessons Learned with regards to the NATO Response Force ( NRF). Because NDC-GR HQ will take over NRF HQ in 2012, MGen Tamouridis was very interested in how the JALLC could assist NDC-GR HQ in establishing Lessons Learned capabilities at the HQ level; in particular, the domains of training, structure, procedures and tools. The visit concluded with the signing of the JALLC Book of Honour.

The Commander of the German Armed Forces Office visits the JALLC.

the German Armed Forces Office visitMajor General Thomas Wollny, Commander of the German Armed Forces Office, paid a visit to the German staff element at the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on 01 August 2011.
Commander JALLC, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby welcomed MajGen Wollny and provided him with a briefing on the JALLC mission, role and responsibilities with special emphasis on current JALLC activities and projects.
MajGen Wollny was impressed by the variety of topics covered by JALLC and showed a special interest in NATO's Lessons Learned Process and the information exchange with nations.
In a second part of the visit MajGen Wollny was briefed by the German Senior National Representative and JALLC Head of OPS Branch, Colonel Karlheinz Nickel, about the current situation of the German staff element and its contribution to the JALLC.

General Luís Esteves de Araújo, Portuguese CHOD, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Wednesday, 6 July.

the German Armed Forces Office visitGeneral Luís Esteves de Araújo was met at the Air Command Main Gate by the PRT Air Commander LtGen José Joaquim Ramos Tareco and also by the Commander JALLC Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. Following a review of the guard, General Luís Esteves de Araújo was escorted to the JALLC where he had a meeting with BGen Sonneby. Following this meeting, the General was briefed on the role and capabilities of the JALLC and provided with an insight on recent reports, ongoing projects and of the activities of the JALLC Advisory and Training Team ( JATT). General Luís Esteves de Araújo highlighted his willingness to support the JALLC in every aspect of Host Nation Support including his commitment to provide training facilities for courses and conferences. He re-affirmed his support to the NATO Lessons Learned Conference and to the planned MC visit.
The General also had a separate session with the Portuguese community of the JALLC.

General Luís Esteves de Araújo expressed his appreciation for the visit and the importance of the JALLC and explained he wanted to increase the cooperation and maintain a good relationship between the JALLC and the Portuguese Armed Forces.

The United States Defence Attaché and Naval Attaché to Portugal visit the JALLC.

The NATO Defense Manpower Audit Authority visitOn Tuesday 21 June, the new Defence Attaché, Colonel William G. Hampton, and Naval Attaché, Captain James H. Kruse, from the United States to Portugal visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC).
Their visit began with a warm welcome by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After introductions, the gentlemen were presented with a brief on JALLC's activities, internal structure and processes delivered by JALLC's Chief of Staff, Colonel Joao Barbas, Portuguese Army. They were both impressed with JALLC's work and thankful for JALLC's service in supporting NATO Operations throughout the world. The visit was concluded with Colonel Hampton's signing of the JALLC Book of Honour and a photograph with the Command Group and the active and reserve US Officers stationed at JALLC.

The NATO Defense Manpower Audit Authority visits the JALLC.

The NATO Defense Manpower Audit Authority visitOn 14,15 and 16 June 2011 the JALLC was visited by representatives of the NATO Defense Manpower Audit Authority ( NDMAA). The NDMAA has an important role in the process of developing and validating the new NCS PE. They are involved in the development of the Outline Peacetime Establishments.

The purpose of the visit was to have a clear understanding about the processes and procedures conducted by the JALLC.

The NDMAA representatives where welcomed by the Commander JALLC, Brigadier General SONNEBY. After a short introduction to the JALLC mission and structure, the Command brief was presented followed by interviews of the Branch Chiefs, COS and the Commander. The head of the NDMAA delegation expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of the JALLC staff and was impressed by the work done by the JALLC. The visit was a success and gave them all the required information for a good audit of the JALLC

The JFC Lisbon SNR’s and NSE’s Commanding Officer’s visit the JALLC.

the US National Technical Experts visitOn Wednesday 15 March 2011 the JFC Lisbon Senior National Representatives and National Support Element Commanding Officers visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal. The purpose of the visit was to present the national representatives with an understanding of the responsibilities of the JALLC with emphasis on the use of project teams and the way the JALLC runs projects.

The group was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After the Commander expressed his appreciation for the outstanding support provided by the SNR’s and the respective support elements of JFCLB, the JALLC Command brief was given by the Chief of Staff. This was followed by a tour of the building and a short reception where the JALLC Staff was met. Following this the SNR’s expressed their appreciation of the JALLC contribution to their increased awareness of the responsibilities and the work performed by the JALLC, as well as expressing their full support to the JALLC Staff.

On 08 June 2011 the JALLC was visited by representatives of the US National Technical Experts (USNATEX) from Brussels, Belgium.

After a short introduction to the JALLC mission and structure, the guests were presented with briefs on recently finished and ongoing projects by the respective project managers and briefed on the Lessons Learned Portal and Databases. The primary aim of the visit was to learn more about JALLC involvement in analysis that related to the Afghan Mission Network ( AMN), and the group was introduced to the soon to be released ISAF Anti-Fratricide Study which dealt with this issue. USNATEX thanked BG SONNEBY for the visit and the day finished with a group picture in front of the JALLC building.

The Swedish International Centre visitOn 13 April 2011 the JALLC was visited by representatives of the Swedish International Centre (SWEDINT).

The SWEDINT representatives where welcomed by the Commander JALLC, Brigadier General SONNEBY. After a short introduction to the JALLC mission and structure, the guests were presented with first hand information about recently finished and ongoing projects by the respective project managers and briefed on the Lessons Learned Portal and Databases. The Head of the Delegation expressed his appreciation for the visit and explained it was vital for SWEDINT to update and increase the knowledge and skills about NATO and NATO procedures for its staff. The Ambassador of Slovenia to Portugal visit On Thursday 20 January 2011, her Excellency the Ambassador of Slovenia, Mrs. Bernarda Gradišnik, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

Ambassador Gradišnik was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, the Ambassador was briefed on where the JALLC fits within Allied Command Transformation, then on the role, capabilities and activities of the JALLC. Of special interest to Ambassador Gradišnik were the future changes to the NATO Command Structure.
Afterwards, Ambassador Gradišnik signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed her appreciation for a fruitful visit and learning experience.

The Knowledge Management Director JFC Brunssum Visits the JALLC.

The Knowledge Management Director JFC Brunssum Visit On 30 March 2011, the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre ( JALLC) in Monsanto, Portugal was visited by Major General Jacques Cazamea, Knowledge Management Director, JFC Brunssum.

After a courtesy call with the Commander JALLC, BGen Peter Sonneby, MGen Cazamea was briefed on the JALLC’s role, capabilities and current activities. Of interest to MGen Cazamea were the JALLC’s recent reports on the Lessons Learned Process in ISAF and Lessons Learned Sharing in NATO and Nations. As well, he received a briefing from Colonel Karl-Heinz Nickel on the JALLC’s ongoing study on Intelligence Functions, which was of particular interest due to its Knowledge Development aspects and the importance of non-kinetic effects such as a Comprehensive Approach to operations.
MGen Cazamea expressed his appreciation for the briefings and concluded his visit by signing the JALLC Book of Honour.

The Colonel Stewart Moore, the Canadian NMR in SHAPE visit On 18 March 2011 the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal was visited by Colonel Stewart Moore, the Canadian NMR in SHAPE.

Col Moore, in Lisbon to attend a national conference at the Canadian Embassy, took the opportunity to visit the Canadian NATO officers in Lisbon and learn a bit more about the JALLC. Accompanied by LCol Patrick O’Halloran, the senior Canadian officer in Lisbon, Col Moore was briefed on the JALLC, its mission and tasks, as well as the role of the Canadians serving in JALLC.

The Baltic Defense College visits the JALLC.

The Baltic Defense College visit On 5 May 2011 the JALLC was visited by the Baltic Defence College located in Tartu, Estonia. 68 students from Estonia, Norway, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Czech, Germany, and Denmark visited the JALLC during their education trip to Madrid and Lisbon.

The course was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General SONNEBY. After courtesy call with COM JALLC the students were presented with first hand information about the recent reports and ongoing projects on Operations, Exercises and Training Areas, briefed on the Lessons Learned Database, Lessons Learned Process, Interoperability Study and Comprehensive Approach.
At the end of the day, the Commander of the Baltic Defense College, Brigadier General KIILI, expressed his thanks for the comprehensive program and hospitality to JALLC COM Brigadier General SONNEBY, underlining the benefit for the students in understanding the important role of the JALLC in the NATO structure.

Deputy Director of the Research Division of the NATO Defense College visits the JALLC.

Deputy Director of the Research Division of the NATO Defense College visit On 28 April 2011 the JALLC was visited by Dr. Brooke Smith-Windsor, Deputy Director of the Research Division of the NATO Defense College.

The visit was very fruitful, in that areas of work where identified within our organizations that have potential for collaboration in the future. There are at least 3 topics in the NDC Research Division’s 2011 program that overlap with JALLC projects: NATO and the African Union, Comprehensive Approach and Maritime Security. It was agreed to look further at exactly how the JALLC and NDC could assist each other in these areas. In addition the JALLC will work with the NDC on other areas of cooperation.

The German General/Admiral Staff Course visits the JALLCe.

The German General/Admiral Staff Course visit On 30 March 2011 the JALLC was visited by the German General/Admiral Staff Course from the Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr located in Hamburg, Germany. The 24 students from Germany, Estonia, France, Poland, Belgium, Norway, Spain and the United States of America visited the JALLC during their educational trip to Lisbon and Madrid.

The course was welcomed by the Commander JALLC, Brigadier General SONNEBY. After a short introduction to the JALLC mission and structure, the students were presented with first hand information about recently finished and ongoing projects by the respective project managers. The students seized the opportunity to get information right down to the last detail.
At the end of the day, the head of delegation Colonel MALKMUS, expressed his thanks for the comprehensive program and the hospitality to Colonel BARBAS, the JALLC Chief of Staff, and he underlined the benefit for the students in understanding the important role of the JALLC in the NATO structure.

The Ambassador of Austria to Portugal visitOn Monday 28 March, his Excellency the Ambassador of Austria, Mr. Bernhard Wrabetz, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

Ambassador Mr. Bernhard Wrabetz was welcomed by the JALLC Chief of Staff, Colonel Joáo Barbas. After a courtesy call with Chief of staff, the Ambassador was briefed on where the JALLC fits within Allied Command Transformation on the role, capabilities, activities, and the relationship to Partner countries of the JALLC. The Ambassador was very pleased with the comprehensive briefing and showed a special interest in the reform of the NATO Command structure. From a Partnership for Peace point of view he was also interested in the Sharing piece of the Lessons Learned Process, especially with the EU and the UN, as well as in JALLC products in relation to ongoing operations.

The Ambassador of Hungary to Portugal visitOn 22 March 2011, the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Portugal was visited by the Ambassador of Hungary to Portugal, his Excellency Mr. Norbert Konkoly. During the first half of 2011, Hungary holds the EU Presidency and with this in view, the Ambassador visited the JALLC in order to become familiar with its activities and organization.

The Ambassador received a warm welcome by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with the Commander and JALLC’s Chief of Staff, he was briefed on where the JALLC fits within NATO’s military structure, and on the role, capabilities and current activities of the Centre. Of special interest to Mr. Konkoly were the accessibility to the NATO Lessons Learned Databases and how the JALLC supports the Nations in building a Lessons Learned capability. He expressed his appreciation for the assistance given by the JALLC Advisory and Training Team to the Hungarian Lessons Learned organizations by advising the Hungarian staff on Lessons Learned procedures and processes and providing beneficial analyses training support. He concluded his visit by signing the JALLC Book of Honour.

The Ambassador of The Netherlands to Portugal visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre On Tuesday 15 February, his Excellency the Ambassador of The Netherlands Mr Henk J.W. Soeters , visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

Ambassador Mr Henk J.W. Soeters was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, the Ambassador was briefed on the transformational role of ACT and how the JALLC supports this role and was given more details of our structure and processes and was informed about recent JALLC studies and other JALLC products as well as our role within Lessons Learned sharing and our "outreach" activities through the JALLC Advisory and Training Team.
The Ambassador was very pleased with the briefing and showed a special interest in the reform of the NATO Command Structure. He also emphasized the decision of the Dutch government, two weeks ago, to send personnel to conduct a training mission for the Afghan Police in Kunduz.
Afterwards, Ambassador Soeters signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for a fruitful visit and learning experience.

Rear Admiral Hasan Usaklioglu Visit to the JALLC Rear Admiral Hasan Usaklioglu, the Turkish National Military Representative to SHAPE, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday, 14 February.

After a welcome by the Chief of Staff, Colonel João Manuel Assis Barbas, RAdm Usaklioglu was briefed on the role and capabilities of the JALLC and areas of common interest among the JALLC, the two supreme allied commands and the nations. This was his first visit to the JALLC and RAdm Usaklioglu expressed particular interest in analysis process carried out by JALLC, Analysis Requirement and Analysis Objectives relationship, the Lessons Learned process, JALLC outreach with JATT especially related with PfP Training Center in Turkey and the initiative related to contacts to universities and Center of Excellences.
On completion of the briefing and discussions, RAdm Usaklioglu signed the JALLC Book of Honor, expressed his appreciation for the visit and stressed that it had contributed significantly to his awareness of the important role of the JALLC in the NATO structure.

The Ambassador of Turkey to Portugal visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre On Wednesday 16 February, his Excellency the Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Ali Kaya Savut and Military Attaché of Turkey Colonel Ibrahim Aydin, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

Ambassador Mr. Ali Kaya Savut was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, the Ambassador and the Military Attaché were briefed on where the JALLC fits within Allied Command Transformation on the role, capabilities and activities of the JALLC, joint analysis and lessons learned processes. The Ambassador was very pleased with the briefing and showed a special interest in the analysis process, independent and intellectual nature of the JALLC reports and its challenges, recent JALLC reports and their relation with other HQs including IS/IMS, information sharing activities of JALLC, JATT support to the nations and the initiative related to contacts to universities and academia. He offered to support the JALLC in any request to Turkey on such contacts
Afterwards, Ambassador Mr. Ali Kaya Savut signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for a fruitful visit and learning experience.

The Ambassador of The Netherlands to Portugal visits the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre On Tuesday 15 February, his Excellency the Ambassador of The Netherlands Mr Henk J.W. Soeters , visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) in Monsanto, Lisbon Portugal.

Ambassador Mr Henk J.W. Soeters was welcomed by the JALLC Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby. After a courtesy call with Commander JALLC, the Ambassador was briefed on the transformational role of ACT and how the JALLC supports this role and was given more details of our structure and processes and was informed about recent JALLC studies and other JALLC products as well as our role within Lessons Learned sharing and our "outreach" activities through the JALLC Advisory and Training Team.
The Ambassador was very pleased with the briefing and showed a special interest in the reform of the NATO Command Structure. He also emphasized the decision of the Dutch government, two weeks ago, to send personnel to conduct a training mission for the Afghan Police in Kunduz.
Afterwards, Ambassador Soeters signed the JALLC Book of Honour and expressed his appreciation for a fruitful visit and learning experience.

Rear Admiral Berggrav Visit to the JALLC Rear Admiral Jørgen Breggrav, the Norwegian National Military Representative to SHAPE, visited the Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday, 10 January.

After a welcome by the Commander, Brigadier General Peter Sonneby, RAdm Berggrav was briefed on the role and capabilities of the JALLC and areas of common interest between the JALLC, the two supreme allied commands and the nations. This was his first visit to the JALLC and RAdm Berggrav expressed particular interest in the Lessons Learned process, the importance of sharing information and the benefit from implementation of lessons.
Radm Berggrav expressed his appreciation for the visit and concluded by signing the JALLC "Book of Honour".
