Brigadier General Peter Sonneby Danish Air Force
Commander, Joint Analysis & Lessons Learned Centre.

The Brigadier General Peter Sonneby Brigadier General Sonneby was born in 1954 in Copenhagen and joined the Danish Air Force in 1975.

After graduation from the Danish Air Force Academy and follow-on HAWK air defence missile training in the United States in 1981, Brigadier General Sonneby served for the next seven years in a variety of junior officer posts in Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) Squadron 541 and the HAWK Wing.

In 1988-89 he attended the Advanced Staff Course at the Royal Air Force Staff College in Bracknell, UK. Upon completion he assumed command of SAM Squadron 531.

From 1992-95, he served on the staff of HQ Chief of Defence Denmark, first as the Staff Officer in the Alert and Exercise Branch, then as the Military Assistant to the Chief of the Defence Staff, and finally as the Branch Head for the NATO Infrastructure Development Section. After completing these staff tours, he assumed the post of Department Head for Political Science and Strategy at the Royal Danish Defence College. He attended the NATO Defence College, Course 97/1, in 1998.

In 1998, Brigadier General Sonneby was assigned to his first NATO assignment , being posted to HQ Allied Forces Central Europe (now Joint Force Command Brunssum) as the Executive Officer for Staff Operations in the Command Group. This assignment was followed in 2001 by a tour as Chief of Personnel Policy in HQ Chief of Defence Command Denmark and as Chief of Pay and Administration at the Danish Defence Personnel Organization. In 2006 Brigadier General Sonneby was assigned to SHAPE for duty as the Deputy Director of Staff.

In January 2010, Brigadier General Sonneby received orders to assume command of JALLC.

Brigadier General Sonneby holds the following decorations: the Commanders Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog; the Badge of Honour for Good Service in the Air Force; the Reserve Officers Badge of Honour; and the NATO Meritorious Service Medal.

He is married to Inge Sonneby and together they have three sons.

Jorge M. Barros Gomes, Portuguese Army Colonel,
Chief of Staff.

The Colonel José Barros Gomes Colonel Jorge M. Barros Gomes was born in 1960 and joined the Portuguese ArmyForces (Paratroopers School) in August 1979, attended the Portuguese Militray Academ from 1881 to 1986 and was promoted to the current rank in July 2009.

Major tasks/responsibilities:

  • Infantry School from 1986 to 1992: Cadets Plt Commander, Heavy Mortar Plt Commander, Coy Commander of Privates, Coy Commander of Cadets, Director of Military Academy schoolar year (Infantry branch).
  • Paratroopers School from 1992 to 1995: Coy Commander of Cadets, Director of Sargents Promotion Course, S4/3rd Paratroopers Bon.
  • Land Forces Command HQ from 1995 to 2011: G2 Assistant, Security Officer, G3 Assistant, G3 Chief, G5 Chief, Support Unit Commander, INFO OPS Chief and Inspector of Land Forces HQ.
  • JHQ Lisbon/JFC Lisbon from 2000 to 2005 and 2011 to 2012: Staff Officer Land & Amphibious J5 Branch, Joint Effects Management Branch division Chief and simultaneously STRATCOM Advisor.

3 duty of service in KFOR HQ Pristina/Kosovo:

  • From August 2006 to February 2007 as Plans & Ops/CIMIC Chief in J9;
  • From August 2008 to February 2009 as Staff Officer JEC Assessment Branch chief;
  • From August 2012 to February 2013 as ACOS JEC (Joint Effects Coordination) chief having under his leadership INFO OPS, PSY OPS, CIMIC and Liaison Monitoring Team Coordination Cell.

Participation in several national and international exercises (NATO, NATO/PfP and EUROFOR exercises) in terms of planning and execution, such as: EOLO 96,97 98 & 2000 (EUROFOR), ORION 94 until 2000, LINKED SEAS 2000 (NATO), Ex.LUSÍADA 98,99 & 2000, ex. DYNAMIC MIX 97, ex COOPERATIVE DETERMINATION 97, 99, ex. STRONG RESOLVE 98 & 2002, ex. COOPERATIVE NUGGET 03, ex. JOINT VISION 03 e 04, ex. ALLIED ACTION 04 e 05, ex. DRAGAO/PADRELA11, e. STEADFAST JUNCTURE 11 & ex. STEADFAST JOIST 12.

During his active duty period he attended several military cse:

  • NATO Staff Officers Orientation Cse (NATO School);
  • Crisis Management Cse (NATO School);
  • INFO OPS Planners Cse (NATO School);
  • MIDEX (NL Defence Institute);
  • CAX Cse (NC3 A- NL);
